Athena 

• Athena is a digital property search engine with an interactive map using McHenry County geographic data. It is searchable by PIN (property index number), subdividsion, address, property owner, or sale price/date. 

Plat Maps

• Plat maps give a detailed snapshot of a rural community at a given time. They’re often labeled with landowners’ names. Other details might include the square footage for a plot, or number of dwellings constructed on a plot. You will need to know the township, section number and range.

Sanborn Maps

• Sanborn maps provide snapshots of communities. Since they are labeled by block number and lot number, you will need to know those first. 

Recorder

• The McHenry County Recorder’s office keeps records of deeds, easements, mortgages, liens, and bills of sale. Tracing these documents back through time will reveal owners’ names and other information. There is a free search option for basic information.
